Content Marketing Success Summit Review

Marc Guberti – Your Content Marketing Success Summit Host

Mark Guberti - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tips

My number one tip for content marketing success has to be to organize a virtual summit.

Through a virtual summit, you’ll get to meet key influencers in your niche and interact with thousands of attendees in the process.

A virtual summit is easy for anyone to get started in, and even if you have no audience, hosting a successful virtual summit can result in thousands of subscribers and more revenue.

Summit Day One

9am Jay Papasan

Jay Papasan- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

A perfect marketing pitch doesn’t matter if your product is mediocre. The first domino is creating remarkable content.

We invest time… lots of it. We invest in specialist—researchers, editors and designers.

And our final investment is in testing the material.

Like everyone else, we ask colleagues and supporters to read our final drafts and provide critical feedback. However, we also set aside time to teach our books before we sign off on the content.

These training sessions were scary at first but have provided a huge payoff. We get fast, honest feedback. If you are telling your signature story and half the audience is browsing Facebook on their cellphones, that is undeniable feedback you have the wrong story.

And the opposite is also true.

We’ve been surprised that sections that we thought were marginal actually resonated with our audience and therefore needed more space on the page.

The accountability question Gary is always willing to ask is this: “Is this the best we can do or the best that can be done?”

This prevents us from getting too comfortable with our process and pushes us to look for ways to create truly remarkable content.

12pm Itxy Lopez

Itxy Lopez- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My best tip to help a new blogger achieve content marketing success is to provide value to others by showing how much you care.

You show you care by being yourself, by being unapologetically you and saying…

“Don’t worry, I got you. Here’s how you can do this.”

Don’t be too stiff, don’t change yourself, just let your words show off your personality!

Visit Itxy at Itxayana.com, Follow her on Twitter @ItxyLopez

1:45pm Stacy Ennis

Stacy Ennis- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

To get the most out of you campaign you should put as much effort into creating great content as you do into promoting it.

All the promotion power in the world can’t make up for poorly created content.

Summit Day Two

9am Mark Asquith

Mark Asquith- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My tip is to create a content calendar.

Make sure that it is consistent but that gives you the latitude and flexibility to insert bespoke pieces and timely content, as you desire, without overwhelming your audience.

9:35am Amy Morse

Amy Morse - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tips

When it comes to content marketing my number one tip is… do it little and often and remember consistency is key.

Visit Amy at AmyMorse.co.uk, Follow her on Twitter @AmyMorse_Writer

10am Prerna Malik

Prerna Malik- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My #1 tip is to really get clear on who is reading your blog. When you do this you can create content that will reach the right people and resonate with them…

When you crack this it will encourage your readers to share content and spread the message.

Visit Prerna at Content Bistro, Follow her on Twitter @content_bistro

10:45am Anne Rainbow

Anne Rainbow- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tips

Never strive to write a certain amount of words on your blog, social media or anywhere really.

Quality is far more important than quantity.

Lastly, self-editing is key, and I recommend EDITING: the RedPen Way

Visit Anne at ScrivenerVirgin, Follow her on Twitter @ARainbowThomas

11:30 Christopher Gimmer

Christopher Gimmer- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My best tip for a new blogger would be not to publish content just for the sake of it. Too many bloggers pump out content without thinking too much about strategy.

If sales are important to you, then your content should be created with the goal of converting readers into customers. This means that generic top 5 list posts are not going to cut it. You should be measuring the number of people who read your content and how many of them convert to a trial / customer.

If your goal is strictly to drive awareness, then you can broaden the topics in order to get as many eyeballs as possible with your content.

The point is, don’t approach content marketing blindly. Determine what the goal of your content needs to be and create a strategy based around that.

12:05pm Ana Hoffman

Ana Hoffman- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tips

For many people, content marketing equates to content creation. In other words, they keep creating content… just to let it rot in their archives.

Content repurposing (I call it RECONTENT) is the new cornerstone of successful content marketing. Create less content and focus on repurposing what you already have – let your content go to work for you for a change!

Visit Ana at Traffic Generation Cafe, Follow her on Twitter @AnaTrafficCafe

1pm Meera Kothand

Meera Kothand- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My number #1 tip is to know exactly what you want your reader or subscriber to do with every piece of content you put out there.

You need to reverse engineer the outcome or goal you want from your content.

This makes it easier to structure, write and produce content because every piece has intent prior to publishing it.

Visit Meera at MeeraKothand.com, Follow her on Twitter @MeeraKothand

Summit Day Three

9am Mary Fernandez

Mary Fernandez- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My biggest content marketing tip is to create content for other popular platforms.

Writing guest posts, being a guest on a podcast, or collaborating with other YouTubers is one of the quickest ways to grow your audience!

Visit Mary at Awesome Guest, Follow her on Twitter @maryefern

9:45am Aaron Orendorff

Aaron Orendorff- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

Make your content connect.

The only way to do that is to know exactly what problems and pains your audience is experiencing. “How To” articles are often practical but fail to grab readers because they lack emotional headlines and introductions.

Beyond that, when you do make a piece practical … make it practical. Content lives and dies by whether or not it solves a problem independent of the ‘solution’ you’re selling.

You have to help your audience overcome their pain before you say, ‘Oh, and you should buy this.

10:30am Andy Crestodina

Andy Crestodina - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tips

If you master one skill, let it be headline authoring. The headline determines the clickthrough rate. And the clickthrough rate is the key to every content marketing channel.

  • Email: The headline determines the CTR from the inbox to your website
  • Social: The headline determines the CTR from the social stream to your website
  • Search: The headline determines the CRT from the search results page to your website

Study headlines. Practice. Research. Experiment. Write many and choose one. Getting better at this makes you better at everything. It’s the key to traffic from every channel.

Visit Andy at Orbit Media, Follow him on Twitter @crestodina ‏

11:15am Jon Nastor

Jon Nastor - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tips

Harness your insignificance.

Not your insignificance as a human or even as a creator, but within your listeners and readers day-to-day lives.

No matter how much they love you, they won’t listen, read, or watch everything you make.

Use this to your advantage and repurpose everything to make and distribute it across multiple platforms and formats.

Visit Jon at Hack The Entrepreneur, Follow him on Twitter @jonnastor

12pm Shel Horowitz

Shel Horowitz - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tips

My best tip to improve your content marketing is to offer unique content that people can’t just find somewhere else.

Visit Shel at Going Beyond Sustainability, Follow him on Twitter @shelhorowitz

1:30pm Josh Haynam

Josh Haynam - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tips

If one person asks a question, there are lots of others who want to know the same thing but just haven’t asked yet.

Visit Josh at Interact, Follow him on Twitter @JHaynam

Summit Day Four

09:00 Yaro Starak

Yaro Starak- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My number one content marketing success tip is to focus on both sides of the content marketing equation

  1. The value you deliver in your own blog/podcast/video content, which means you know what your audience are trying to do, and you know how to do it, so you can show them the way with your content (the content side of the equation)
  2. The content you use to reach people, which means you also create content that will not be published on your own blog/podcast/video, instead, you provide it for other platforms so they can share it with their audience, helping you to reach new people (the marketing side of the equation)

Visit Yaro at Entrepreneurs Journey, Follow him on Twitter @yarostarak‏

10am Daniel Maw

Dan Maw- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

Get your content wrapped up and out of the way, so you can focus purely on spreading awareness and gaining exposure. That way you’re not doing a balancing act which will give you a much better result.

Visit Daniel at The Turning Point, Follow him on Twitter @Daniel_Maw

10:30am Will Blunt

Will Blunt - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My number one tip for content marketing success is to be consistent.

It might sound boring and overdone as a piece of advice, but for some reason, people (businesses especially) just don’t seem to get it. Everyone is looking for a quick win, an overnight success, or a massive uptick in sales as soon as they publish a blog post or a video. It’s not going to happen.

Those that are successful at content marketing keep turning up. Day after day. Week after week. Month after month. Year after year.

Their content schedule is consistent. Their discipline to promote the content is consistent. And above all else their content quality is consistent.

Without consistency and a bit of patience, content marketing is a waste of money, time and energy.

Visit Will at Blogger Sidekick, Follow him on Twitter @WillBluntAU

11:05am Eve Mayer

Eve Mayer - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tips

My number one tip is to always use The Social Media Business Equation (TM). When you create content you should ensure your content is 20% information, 20% entertainment, 40% interaction and 20% converting to business.

Visit Eve at Social Media Delivered, Follow her on Twitter @SocialMediaDel

11:30am Bryan Cohen

Bryan Cohen- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

Summit Day Five

9:00am Michael Guberti

Michael Guberti - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tips

When writing your content, ensure that you type like you talk. This strategy keeps the branding consistent across your speech & text, only reinforcing your personality over time.

To accelerate the process, you can utilize a transcription service like Rev.com to convert your video or audio into words, so you save time on typing.

The transcript fulfills the “type like you talk” tactic because the result is literally your spoken words. Often, a 20-minute video yields more text than you can produce in an hour.

Create more content in less time while connecting with your audience on a deeper, more conversational level by utilizing transcription services.

Visit Michael at Business Whiz Kids, Follow him on Twitter @MichaelGuberti

9:30am Rohit Malhotra

Rohit Malhotra- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

Visit Rohit at Life Self Mastery, Follow him on Twitter @rohitmal

10am Daniel Alfon

Daniel Alfon - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tips

To really feel content marketing success you need to review the piece of content you’re about to share and ask yourself…

“Will this help my audience more than it’ll help me?”

Visit Daniel at DanielAlfon.com, Follow him on Twitter @DanielAlfon

11am Christine Korda

Christine Korda- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My best tip to help a new blogger achieve content marketing success is to stay true to one’s self and be authentic. Blog about what interests you, whether it be in a personal or professional life.

I also recommend you promote your blog through your other Social Media platforms such as Twitter and look for new platforms where you can become an Influencer, such as Peeks. In fact, on Peeks, you can monetize your posts by live streaming them.

Live streaming is the next best thing in Social Media.

Visit Christine at Peek.com, Follow her on Twitter @Christinekorda

Vin Clancy - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

If you really want to up your game you should focus on two things…

  1. Creating 2-3 posts a day
  2. Growing the followers (or email list) fast in tandem with this

Don’t miss a single day, be aggressive.

Visit Vin at VinClancy.com, Follow him on Twitter @vincentdignan

9:30am Derric Haynie

Derric Haynie- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

Most blogs are started on zero budget, with zero resources, and zero plans. The best way to run a successful blog is to ensure it is backed by a successful business. Build the blog around the business, and make sure you are selling something from day one, to train your audience to buy from you.

One other piece of advice is to have a content tilt – a completely unique and differentiating factor that makes your blog come at a topic from a different angle. Being yourself isn’t a unique angle. Being a (for example) glamping travel blog isn’t even a unique angle… But maybe, if you’re shooting 360 and drone footage from campsites, and no one else is doing that, then you’ve found your content tilt.

12pm Jeanette Joy Fisher

Jeanette Joy Fisher - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

Summit Day Seven

9am Ray Edwards

Ray Edwards- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

It is really simple… Just focus on publishing great content consistently over time.

Eventually, your audience will start to take notice of all your hard work!

Visit Ray at RayEdwards.com, Follow him on Twitter @RayEdwards‏

9:40am Mark Sieverkropp

Mark Sieverkropp - CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

I would have to say condition your audience to click and buy. Too often people wait 6 or 12 months before they ever ask their audience to click or buy something…then when they finally do, their audience is offended that you’re asking them to get out their wallet!

Use affiliate marketing to immediately begin offering your audience relevant products and services.

Visit Mark at Sieverkropp.com, Follow him on Twitter @Skropp2‏

10:30am Alinka Rutkowska

Visit Alinka at AlinkaRutkowska.com, Follow her on Twitter @AlinkaRutkowska

11:15am Summer Tannhauser

Summer Tannhauser- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My best tip for content marketing success is to pick one primary social media platform to grow your presence on.

By building up your social presence on your platform of choice, you can be pretty much guaranteed a steady stream of new audience members to your future content. This means you will not always have to rely on paid advertising.

This trickles down to more email list subscribers, more people going through your funnels, and ultimately more sales of your products and offerings.

Visit Summer at Lady Boss League, Follow her on Twitter @LadyBossLeague

1pm Becky Mollenkamp

Becky Mollenkamp- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My biggest tip to be successful at content marketing is to really focus on just one question …

“Will my reader care about this?”

Too often, we write things because we want to say them or because we think they are important. But the truth is, the only thing that matters is whether our ideal audience/client will be interested.

If not, you need to rethink what you’re creating or how you’re presenting it.

Visit Becky at BeckyMollenkamp.com, Follow her on Twitter @beckymollenkamp

Summit Day Eight

9am Lise Cartwright

Lise Cartwright- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

My #1 tip is: Always ensure that you’re offering

whether it’s to a post-specific content upgrade or a way to grab your main lead magnet.

Create a clickable image that encourages them to click and place it at the bottom of your blog post as well as a hyperlink to it within your blog post.

I get 5-10 subscribers to my email list daily just via this one simple tip.

Visit Lise at Hustle & Groove, Follow her on Twitter @LiseCnz

10am Tom Morkes

Tom Morkes- CMSS17 - Content Marketing Success tip

A lot of content creators get caught up crafting the “perfect” content. This slows down production and hurts growth, in the short and long term.

My advice: start creating content now, and publish daily.

Even if you’re not 100% sure of the precise target market, or exact angle you want to take in regards to your content…that stuff will work itself out. You can only find clarity through action.

So start today.
